In 1977 Ian enrolled as a watch leader, later promoted to 1st Mate, on the 78ft maxi racing yacht Great Britain II. This was her 3rd circumnavigation and they raced furiously, encountering many storms, damage to the boat, injuries and a lightning strike, which he recounts in a fully illustrated talk. He includes amusing anecdotes which always helps to bring the story to life and carry the audience along with the unfolding story. Ian Also filmed for the BBC sports programme GRANDSTAND & subsequently with a colleague made a film which they sold to United Artists for general cinema distribution.
