2 coaches set out to go to the wonderful Petworth House along the A272 in West Sussex. The weather was fine and the countryside looked splendid. We made good time and and arrived on schedule.we parked up and began the fairly strenuous driveway walk to the house through wonderful trees and fabulous daffodils.

Despite earlier doubts the property was ready to welcome us with its NT facilities. The house is grand and its setting by the legendary Capability Brown  is worthy. The rooms of state are well served by the magnificent pictures many by Turner.  One room containing many examples of classical sculpture shines gloriously. The whole building with its huge windows and grand staircase lifts the spirit. Your eyes  are drawn to the wonderful parkland that we did not have time to fully explore. Some did find ourselves I n the   town delighted by its quaint corners and closes. We had a comfortable and generally timely journey home. It was a great day out.
