We set out to walk and explore London each month.
Members, individually or in small groups, take it in turn to choose, research and lead the walks, focusing on particular places of interest.

March 26 BeatlesWalk: Our Explorers group did the Beatles walk around St John’s Wood in March. We crossed the famous pedestrian crossing that the Beatles used for their Abbey Road album recorded in 1969. We then visited the iconic Abbey Wood recording studios where they recorded their first single Love Me Do in 1962. We passed The New London Synagogue where Brian Epstein’s memorial service was held in 1967 and attended by all the Beatles. Our group posed for a photo outside Paul McCartney’s home in Cavendish Avenue bought in 1966 for £40,000 now worth millions and still owned by Paul. We also passed a house that was once owned by Billy Fury in the same street.
August 25 trio report: On a very sunny warm day in August, Explorers 1 group went on our monthly trip to London to explore Paddington Basin. Paddington arm of the Grand Union Canal became Paddington Basin. There was so much to see including the Rolling Bridge and the Fan Bridge. Unfortunately both were out of action undergoing repairs. We then went on the Floating Pocket Park , the only floating park in London. Nestled within St Mary’s Hospital we visited the Alexander Fleming Laboratory Museum which is dedicated to the life and work of Sir Alexander Fleming , a Scottish scientist who is best known for his discovery of penicillin. There was many other places of interest along the way , our final visit was to London’s smallest house measuring 10 feet by 4 feet. February 25 trip report: On a lovely sunny day in London , Explorers one went first to see the the Leake Street Arches where graffiti is encouraged including a Banksy . A photo of the members by the Banksy artwork taken . We then walked towards the Houses of Parliament seeing the statues of many past U.K. Prime Ministers plus Ghandi , Nelson Mandella and the SuffragetteMillicentGarrettFawcett Millicent Garrett Fawcett in the square opposite the Houses . The guided tour of the Houses of Parliament was excellent and many of our group took the opportunity to view the MPs debating in the House of Commons and the Lords in the House of Lords from the public gallery .
The Houses of Parliament tour with guide was free organised by the office of Mike Martin , the MP for Tunbridge Wells . Any resident of Tunbridge Wells can apply for a free guided tour if booked via their local MP.
