How We Operate

At the core of our u3a are its members and especially those among them who volunteer by way of organising our interest groups and participating in the many supporting teams that help us to successfully function.

In addition to the regular meetings and events of our interest groups, our u3a runs:

  • Monthly talks, coffee mornings, and additional member-wide events, organised by our Events Coordinator.
  • Day’s outings (about ten a year) organised by our Outings Coordinator.
  • Short breaks (typically each of five days in duration) organised by our Short Breaks Coordinator.
  • As well as other one-off events such as a volunteers’ lunch, quiz night, and Christmas lunch.

Much of the above activity is supported by other teams.

  • The Welcome Team that meets and greets those attending events.
  • The T-team that provides refreshments at many of the events.
  • The Audio Visual Team that provides support for events requiring audio and visual systems.
  • The Publicity Team and associated Gazebo team that staff the stand we set up at various external events to promote our u3a.
  • The Website Team that maintains this website.
  • The Beacon Team that looks after the online system used for member information and their group interests.
  • The Talks Organiser, who arranges speakers for our monthly talks.

All the above are overseen by our Executive Committee of nine, some of whom are leaders of the teams mentioned above.  Each committee member serves for one or two three-year terms.  The Committee meets every month except December.

The operations of TWu3a are governed by its adopted policies, practices and guidance, that are regularly reviewed and revised as necessary by the Executive Committee.

The main thing to note is the extent to which our u3a relies on the volunteer efforts of many of its members, for which our u3a is immensely grateful.
